China to introduce zero tariffs for 53 African countries

China will introduce zero tariffs on imports of goods from 53 African countries with which it maintains diplomatic relations from May 1, 2026, according to state media reports. According to Beijing, the measure is intended to promote trade and strengthen economic cooperation between China and African countries.

Beijing also plans to continue negotiations on joint economic partnership agreements and sign new treaties. The aim is to create a more stable framework for trade and investment. China also wants to expand African exporters' access to its market through improved mechanisms, including the so-called "green channel," which is designed to speed up customs and administrative processes.

According to Chinese state television, this is another step in a long-term strategy to strengthen ties with Africa. In recent years, China has emerged as one of the continent's most important trading partners and a key investor in infrastructure projects. The announced measures are likely to further deepen the economic ties between the two sides.
