Pahlavi calls on US to intervene against Iran, warns against agreement
Iranian opposition leader Reza Pahlavi has called on the United States to take military action against Tehran and appealed to President Donald Trump's administration not to negotiate with the Iranian regime over the nuclear deal for too long. According to him, intervention could save lives and hasten the fall of the clerical government.
The son of the deposed Iranian shah made the statement on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, which Iranian government representatives are not allowed to attend. He claims that the regime is on the verge of collapse and that external pressure could strengthen the protest movement.
In recent weeks, Iran has faced a wave of unrest that broke out in late December over economic problems and led to mass arrests.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration is negotiating with Tehran over its nuclear program, while the US is strengthening its military presence in the region. According to Reuters, the US military is also preparing for the possibility of a longer operation if the president orders an attack. However, Trump has previously expressed doubts about Pahlavi's real support in Iran.
