Apartments for those killed in the war in Ukraine opened in Pyongyang

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has opened a new residential district in Pyongyang for the families of soldiers who died in foreign operations. According to the state agency KCNA, the project is intended to symbolize the "spirit and sacrifice" of the fallen and bring at least some comfort to their loved ones.

Kim said he tried to speed up construction so that families could move into their new homes as soon as possible and be proud of their sons and husbands.

In the published photos, he is accompanied by his daughter Kim Ju-ae, who has been appearing at his side more and more often in recent years. It seems that the regime is gradually strengthening her public profile, which is fueling speculation about a possible succession.

The opening comes ahead of the Workers' Party congress and at a time when, according to available data, North Korea has sent approximately 14,000 soldiers to support Russia in the war against Ukraine. More than 6,000 of them are reported to have been killed.
