Microsoft: AI will replace most office jobs within 18 months

According to Mustafa Suleyman, general manager of Microsoft's AI division, artificial intelligence could automate most office jobs within the next 12 to 18 months, writes Tom's Hardware.

In an interview with the Financial Times, he said that systems will achieve performance comparable to humans in "most, if not all" professional tasks. This includes lawyers, accountants, project managers, and marketers.

Microsoft is talking about its ambition to develop so-called humanistic superintelligence.

Similar predictions have been made by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and Ford CEO Jim Farley. Some analyses admit a noticeable impact on the labor market.

At the same time, however, other studies question the immediate economic effect. According to an MIT analysis, up to 95 percent of corporate use of generative AI had no measurable impact on profits, and more than half of managers, according to PwC, do not see clear benefits.
