Disney plans reorganisation, up to 1,000 jobs at risk
The Walt Disney Company is preparing layoffs that could affect up to 1,000 employees in the coming weeks, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Most of the cuts are expected to affect the marketing department. Although this is a significant number, in the context of the total workforce – approximately 231,000 employees – it represents around 0.5 per cent.
Available information suggests the plan was not drawn up in response to recent management changes. Preparations began even before the new CEO, Josh D’Amaro, took office.
The move also fits with efforts by new marketing chief Asad Ayaz to unify marketing activities and cut costs under the Project Imagine initiative.
Disney has not officially commented on the report, and Reuters has been unable to independently confirm it.
