Trump Compares US Naval Actions Against Iran to Piracy

US President Donald Trump has sparked controversy with remarks on the naval blockade of Iran, comparing US Navy operations to piracy.

“We took over the ship, we took over the cargo, we took over the oil. It's a very profitable business,” Trump said in remarks on Friday evening. “We're like pirates. We're sort of like pirates but we are not playing games.”

According to available information, the United States is detaining Iranian vessels and tankers in Asian waters as part of a broader blockade.

Tehran has responded with its own measures, restricting shipping through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil and gas supplies.

The conflict, which began at the end of February, has had a tangible impact on global markets and regional security. Trump’s comments have also drawn criticism, highlighting Washington’s hardline and controversial approach.
