Poland Says No Indication of US Troop Redeployment to NATO East
Poland has not received any indication that US troops being withdrawn from Germany will be redeployed to NATO’s eastern flank, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said.
“We have no such information at the moment,” Tusk said in response to questions about whether Washington was considering moving forces closer to Russia’s border instead of returning them to the United States.
The remarks follow a Pentagon announcement that about 5,000 US troops will be withdrawn from Germany, prompting debate over future force deployments in Europe.
Countries on NATO’s eastern flank, including Poland, have long called for a stronger allied military presence in the region. It remains unclear what steps the United States will take next or whether any redeployment within Europe will occur.
