Wadephul: Unanimity Rule Puts EU Security at Risk
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul warned on Wednesday that the European Union's unanimity rule poses an existential threat to the bloc on security matters. He said Germany would reach out to member states that remain skeptical of qualified majority voting.
"When it comes to security, the principle of unanimity can put us in existential danger. Because it's a matter of life and death! We see that every day in Ukraine", he said.
Wadephul stressed that the EU needs qualified majority voting to make decisions more quickly, particularly in foreign policy. The change is currently supported by 12 member states.
