Drone Violates Latvian Airspace Near Russian Border

Latvia issued a warning on Saturday after an unidentified drone was spotted near its border with Russia. The national armed forces reported a possible airspace threat and immediately reinforced monitoring and air defenses in the east of the country in cooperation with NATO. The incident triggered a heightened alert and the deployment of NATO fighter jets as part of the Baltic Air Policing mission.

Residents in the affected regions were advised to take shelter under the "two walls" rule, staying as far as possible from windows and outer walls. The Latvian military later announced that it had eliminated the threat, confirming that one drone had entered Latvian airspace before subsequently leaving the country.

Latvia also warned that similar incidents may continue for as long as Russia's war against Ukraine continues.
