Magyar Proposes V4 Summit, Invites Austria

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar has proposed hosting a summit of Visegrad Four (V4) prime ministers in Budapest by the end of June. According to the MTI news agency, he said that if the leaders of the member states agree, the Austrian chancellor could also attend, as the talks would be open to expanding regional cooperation.

Magyar also indicated that the cooperation format could be extended to other Central and South-Eastern European countries, naming Croatia, Romania, Slovenia and the Western Balkan countries as possible partners. He did not rule out further enlargement in the future.

"I think we can agree that the heart of Europe is now beating in Central Europe and we need much closer cooperation because we have much more in common than what divides us", he said.

The V4 brings together Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic. The group was established in 1991 to coordinate regional cooperation and common interests in Europe.
