Ukraine Holds Combat Drone Competition Near Front Line
A military drone competition this week brought together pilots from 19 elite Ukrainian units and equipment manufacturers. Held in fields near the spa town of Truskavets in western Ukraine, the event showcased new technologies and tactics used on the front line.
Pilots demonstrated air target engagements as well as the navigation and coordination of attack drones. The winners received three Vampire attack drones, batteries and other equipment. Organizers said the competition aimed to share experience among soldiers and provide rapid testing of new products from manufacturers.
The event also offered participants a break from the front, a barbecue and a social evening, with some participants attending with their families. The organizers plan to hold similar competitions in the future to encourage innovation and motivate soldiers.
Commanders say drones are now hitting targets up to 15 km from the front line, significantly changing combat tactics. Ukrainian companies can produce more than 10,000 drones a day, with new versions being developed within months based on feedback from the front.
