Sandu: Russia Not Serious About Peace Talks
Moldovan President Maia Sandu called on Europe and Ukraine's partners to increase economic pressure on Russia, saying she did not believe Moscow was interested in serious peace talks. She was speaking at the Globsec forum in Prague.
Sandu stressed that support for Ukraine must continue, as only then could peace return to the region. Europe and the wider international community must force Russia to the negotiating table, she said.
The Moldovan president also warned against Russian hybrid warfare, citing cyber attacks, manipulation of information, illegal financing of political parties and campaigns, and support for destabilisation activities.
She also drew attention to a Russian decree of 15 May facilitating the granting of citizenship to residents of the unrecognized region of Transnistria. In her view, Moscow could use the measure to recruit people from the region for the war against Ukraine.
