US Warns Oman Against Hormuz Transit Fees
The United States has warned Oman against participating, directly or indirectly, in any plan to impose fees on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Washington also said it would sanction any partners involved in such a scheme.
"The United States Government will not tolerate any effort to impose a tolling system in the Strait of Hormuz", US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said.
He specifically warned Oman that the US Treasury Department would “aggressively” pursue action against actors directly or indirectly involved in facilitating the collection of transit fees in the strait.
Bessent added that sanctions would also target any partners willing to participate in such a system.
