Suspected Ebola Cases in Congo Pass 1,000
The Democratic Republic of Congo has recorded a further rise in suspected Ebola cases, with health minister Samuel Roger Kamba announcing that authorities had registered 1,028 suspected infections, up from 906 the previous day. The number of laboratory-confirmed cases has reached 225.
Health authorities are stepping up epidemiological surveillance and working to trace contacts of infected individuals to contain further spread. The rising case count has prompted concern both within Congo and among international health organisations monitoring the situation.
Ebola is among the most dangerous viral diseases known, carrying a high mortality rate.
