Trump Reportedly Criticizes Netanyahu Over Lebanon Escalation
US President Donald Trump criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the escalating conflict in Lebanon, according to sources cited by Axios.
During a phone call, Trump reportedly used strong language, describing Netanyahu as "crazy" and warning that further attacks, particularly on Beirut, would deepen Israel's international isolation.
The reported exchange came after Iran threatened to suspend negotiations with the United States in response to Israeli military operations in Lebanon. According to sources, Trump said he recognized Israel's right to defend itself against Hezbollah attacks but viewed the scale of Israel's response as disproportionate.
He was reportedly particularly concerned about civilian casualties and the destruction caused by strikes targeting Hezbollah commanders.
According to Axios, Trump also reminded Netanyahu of his longstanding support during the Israeli prime minister's corruption trial.
US officials told the publication that the conversation significantly influenced Israel's military planning. Israel subsequently dropped plans to strike Hezbollah targets in Beirut, although its ground operation in southern Lebanon continues.
