Ukraine Claims Strike on Russian Corvette at Kronstadt
Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces and the Security Service of Ukraine have announced an attack on the Russian corvette Boikiy at the Kronstadt naval base in the Leningrad Region. According to the Ukrainian side, the vessel is capable of carrying cruise missiles.
Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces Robert Brovdi said the drones hit and set fire to the corvette. The attack is reported to have taken place at 6:35 a.m. local time. Ukrainian authorities say they are still assessing the extent of the damage.
The Boiky is the third corvette of Russia's Baltic Fleet. It was launched in 2011 and entered service two years later. Since February it has been in dry dock at Kronstadt undergoing scheduled repairs.
The SBU said the corvette had also been involved in escorting vessels in Russia's oil-carrying shadow fleet. It is also reported to have collided with the research vessel Admiral Vladimirsky while maneuvering in the military port of Kronstadt.
