Naval Drone Explodes in Romanian Port
A naval drone exploded on Friday in the Romanian port of Constanta after being discovered in the civilian section of the harbor, according to Romania’s Defense Ministry, cited by Agerpres.
The object was found in the morning near the headquarters of the Romanian Agency for the Rescue of Human Lives at Sea. It detonated at around 10:30 a.m. local time, causing no casualties.
The ministry said the area had already been secured and isolated before the explosion by members of Romania’s intelligence service, the coast guard, and the armed forces. Specialized units were inspecting and securing the site when the device exploded.
According to the ministry, the drone was not part of the Romanian military’s equipment and was not connected to recent Romanian exercises in the Black Sea.
Romanian authorities said it appeared to be the type of naval drone used in the war in Ukraine.
A loud explosion was heard across several parts of Constanta. Firefighters and ambulances were dispatched to the scene, but initial reports indicated no injuries.
