Nationwide Blackout Hits Jamaica as Millions Lose Power

Jamaica was hit by a nationwide power outage on Friday night, Energy Minister Daryl Vaz announced, though he did not immediately state the cause. The national electricity supplier, Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS), subsequently confirmed that the outage affected the entire island and launched an investigation.

JPS said it had immediately begun restoring electricity supply, with power already returning to some areas. Minister Vaz assured the public that full restoration was expected overnight.

The outage affected millions of residents and raised questions about the stability of the island's power infrastructure. The cause of the grid collapse has not yet been made public.
