Israel Strikes Iran After Missile Attacks

Israel struck military targets in western and central Iran on Monday after Iran launched missiles at Israeli targets. The exchange followed Israeli strikes on Beirut’s southern outskirts on Sunday, which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said were ordered in response to Hezbollah fire toward Israel.

The Beirut strikes hit Dahiyeh, a longtime Hezbollah stronghold, and were the first in the area since the US announced a truce plan for Lebanon last week. Tehran then launched missiles at Israel in retaliation.

US President Donald Trump had reportedly urged Netanyahu not to carry out further strikes.

Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, wrote on X that Iran had fired 11 ballistic missiles at Israel. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed they had targeted Ramat David air base near Nazareth.

The Israeli military later reported further missiles launched from Iran toward Israel, with air defense systems working to intercept them. The update indicated that the exchange was still ongoing on Monday morning.

Iranian media reported that the Karun petrochemical plant in Mahshahr had been hit and damaged by an Israeli projectile, citing a provincial official quoted by Fars. There was no immediate Israeli confirmation of the reported strike.

Trump insisted the new Israeli and Iranian strikes would not derail US-Iran peace talks. “It’s not going to have any impact on the deal”, he told the Financial Times. “I call the shots.”

The Israeli military also reported a missile launch from Yemen toward Israeli territory and activated air defense systems to intercept it. It was the first such attack from Yemen since the 8 April truce.

The tensions also hit energy markets. Brent crude rose by more than 3% in early trading on Monday and climbed back above $96 a barrel.
