Trump Calls for End to Israel-Iran Hostilities
US President Donald Trump has called on Israel and Iran to “stop shooting immediately”. He made the appeal in a brief post on his social media platform Truth Social.
In recent days, Trump has sought to persuade Israel to halt its military operations in Lebanon in an effort to create space for a broader agreement aimed at ending the conflict with Iran. Despite those efforts, the Israeli military carried out strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs on Sunday, reportedly disregarding Trump's appeal.
At the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing domestic political pressure to continue military operations in Lebanon. He is supported primarily by far-right members of his fragile governing coalition.
Critics argue that Israel's actions are complicating diplomatic efforts to end the conflict. They also note that Washington has so far refrained from imposing any significant consequences on Israel for continuing its military campaign.
