Macron Opens G7-China Economic Talks
French President Emmanuel Macron will chair a G7-China video conference on Thursday focused on global economic imbalances, the Élysée Palace announced.
The issue is one of the priorities of France’s G7 presidency and will also feature at next week’s leaders’ summit in Évian, eastern France.
The video conference will include representatives of G7 countries, China, the International Monetary Fund and several other states invited to the summit, including Brazil, South Korea, India, Kenya and Egypt.
Macron’s office said the meeting reflects a new willingness by China, the United States and Europe to coordinate economic action.
France wants to push for a shared recognition that different regions bear responsibility for global imbalances: China overproduces, the United States overconsumes and Europe underinvests.
