Zelensky Says Letter to Putin Achieved Its Goal
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his recent diplomatic efforts have produced tangible results, including a response from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Speaking at a summit in Tallinn, Zelensky said he had sent a series of letters over the past month to the European Union, the United States and Putin. Each had a different objective, and several achieved the outcome Kyiv had hoped for, according to Ukrainska Pravda.
In his correspondence with Washington, Zelensky sought to ensure that Ukraine remained a priority for US policymakers despite the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
He suggested progress had been made on air-defense issues but did not provide details.
Zelensky was similarly vague about his letter to Putin, saying only that it had produced the result he wanted.
The letter, published in early June, was intended to provoke a response from the Kremlin and raise the possibility of a meeting between the two leaders.
While Moscow replied, Putin ultimately declined a face-to-face meeting.
