Romanian President Names New Prime Minister Candidate

Romanian President Nicusor Dan has tasked Adrian Vestea, a senior politician from the National Liberal Party (PNL) and president of the Brasov county council, with forming a new government. The move follows the failure of Eugen Tomac to secure the parliamentary support needed to form a technocratic cabinet.

Vestea has said he intends to form a political government capable of pushing through reforms and preserving Romania's pro-Western orientation. Dan described him as a candidate with strong experience in regional administration, citing his role in developing Brasov and securing European funds.

The political crisis began after the government of Prime Minister Ilie Boloyan was brought down by a parliamentary vote of no confidence in May. Vestea now has ten days to present his ministerial team and program. If parliament rejects his proposal, the process of selecting a prime minister will begin again.
