EU Strengthens Air Defenses With Israeli Systems

Israel expects new orders for its air and missile defense systems from Europe in the near future. According to Moshe Patel, head of the Israel Missile Defense Organization, at least one contract could be concluded within weeks.

Demand is growing as European countries respond to a deteriorating security environment and the ongoing war in Ukraine. Governments are seeking systems capable of intercepting both medium-range ballistic missiles and shorter-range threats.

Germany has already purchased the Arrow missile defense system, which was developed jointly by Israel and the United States. Finland has procured David's Sling, designed to intercept shorter-range ballistic missiles. Patel said several European countries are also interested in Iron Dome, which is used to defend against short-range rocket and missile attacks.

The Israeli official said negotiations are underway with several Western European countries. He added that further agreements could be signed before the end of the year and that they would involve substantial contracts.
