Lukashenko Calls for Russia-Ukraine Compromise
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said Russia and Ukraine must compromise to end the war, warning that further escalation would only worsen the situation.
“Today, we need to use any steps to reach a peaceful agreement through compromises. For the long term”, he told Al Arabiya television. Lukashenko said victory on the battlefield was unrealistic for either side and that both were facing troop shortages, which he described as the conflict’s main problem.
He again ruled out deploying Belarusian forces in Ukraine. Lukashenko said Ukraine had “absolutely nothing to fear” from his country, dismissing concerns about a possible attack from Belarusian territory as politically motivated.
Belarus is one of Russia’s closest allies. It allowed Moscow to use its territory for the 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine and has permitted Russia to deploy nuclear weapons on its soil.
