Russian Frigate Involved in Security Incident Near Britain
The Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich was involved in a security incident in the English Channel after its crew fired warning shots when a civilian yacht approached the warship, according to a source familiar with the investigation.
It remains unclear how close the yacht came to the vessel or whether the incident resulted in any further consequences. British authorities have not yet commented.
A day earlier, the Royal Navy said two British warships were monitoring and escorting the Admiral Grigorovich as it transited waters west of Brest, France.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions between London and Moscow. It follows a recent operation by British commandos against a tanker linked to Russia's so-called shadow fleet, which the UK government says helps finance Russia's war in Ukraine.
