Vance Believes in Change in the Middle East
During talks in Switzerland, US Vice President JD Vance sent an unusually conciliatory message to Iran. He said President Donald Trump wants to open a new chapter in bilateral relations and achieve long-term stability in the Middle East through diplomacy.
Vance praised the ongoing technical talks between US and Iranian officials, which he said would allow both sides to work together systematically for the first time to resolve disputes.
He also emphasized that Washington is striving for a comprehensive regional ceasefire and sees particular progress on the issue of Lebanon.
He acknowledged, however, that such agreements tend to be complicated and that their implementation is often fraught with difficulties. Despite long-standing US reservations about Iranian policy, he believes there is a chance for a fundamental change in relations and for creating conditions for peace, security and economic development in the region.
