Trump Says Iran Broke Ceasefire with Ship Attack
US President Donald Trump accused Iran of attacking a ship off the coast of Oman, which he said violated the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran. On the social media platform Truth Social, he wrote that an Iranian drone struck the upper deck of the vessel, which, despite the damage, continued on its way.
He added that US forces subsequently shot down three more Iranian drones and described the incident as a "foolish violation of the ceasefire agreement".
Two US officials had previously told Reuters, on condition of anonymity, that the Iranian armed forces were behind the attack.
Tensions also escalated on the diplomatic front. Iran sharply criticized a joint statement by the United States and six Gulf countries, which rejected its claims to the right to collect fees from ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Tehran described their stance as provocative and reiterated that it intends to exercise control over the strategic strait.
