US and Iran Clash Again After Strait of Hormuz Incident
The United States struck targets in Iran after Tehran, according to Washington, carried out a drone attack on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz. Both countries are accusing each other of violating the ceasefire they agreed to last week.
The US military said it struck missile and drone depots as well as coastal radar stations. Iran claims that a projectile struck near the port of Sirik and that its navy subsequently attacked US military targets in the region. It did not disclose details of the damage.
US Vice President JD Vance stated that Washington is honoring the ceasefire and that if Iran has any objections, it should address them diplomatically. At the same time, he warned that further violence would be met with a strong response. Iran's Revolutionary Guards warned that any further US attacks would provoke an even more extensive response.
Despite this new escalation, there have also been signs of diplomatic progress. Israel and Lebanon have signed an agreement intended to end the fighting between Israel and the pro-Iranian Hezbollah. The document calls for the disarmament of Hezbollah and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanon, though it remains unclear how it will be enforced. Hezbollah has announced that it will not cooperate with the agreement.
