Brussels Unveils €3.9bn Drone Package for Ukraine
The European Union has provided Ukraine with €3.9bn to finance the procurement of drones. The European Commission announced this on Tuesday. The funds are part of a 90-billion-euro loan that the EU approved earlier this year.
This is another tranche following the Commission’s release of the first installment of €3.2bn euros to Ukraine on June 25, intended to finance the country’s operations.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that this is the first tranche of €3.9bn for advanced unmanned aerial vehicle technology, aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defense.
“And more will follow. These investments will help Ukraine protect its citizens, defend its sovereignty, and reinforce Europe's security”, von der Leyen said in a statement.
