WHO Confirms End of Cruise Ship Hantavirus Outbreak

The World Health Organization (WHO) said Thursday that the hantavirus outbreak linked to a cruise ship has ended, after the last known contact of an infected person completed quarantine and tested negative for the virus.

The outbreak infected 13 people, three of whom died. It was caused by the Andes virus, a rare hantavirus strain commonly found in Argentina and Chile.

The cruise ship MV Hondius departed from Argentina on 1 April.
