Trump Will Mark 250th Anniversary at Mount Rushmore

US President Donald Trump will visit Mount Rushmore in South Dakota on Friday as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. The granite mountain features carved portraits of four US presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.

The visit will serve as a prelude to the main celebrations, which take place on Saturday evening in Washington, where Trump will deliver a speech on the National Mall before a large fireworks display.

Trump also opened the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in Medora, North Dakota, this week. At Mount Rushmore, which he last visited in 2020, he will deliver the keynote address and attend the fireworks display, although organizers have warned of an increased risk of wildfires due to drought in the area.

Trump has repeatedly said in the past that his likeness could be added to the four presidential faces carved into the mountain. In his second term, however, he is focusing on other projects through which he hopes to leave his mark on Washington, including construction of a new hall near the White House and renovation of major public spaces.

He will be accompanied on the trip by Interior Secretary Doug Burgum.
