Netherlands Offers to Host Tribunal on Russian Aggression

The Dutch government is prepared to host a special tribunal on the crime of aggression against Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the decision following a phone call with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten.

Zelensky briefed the prime minister on the consequences of the latest Russian nighttime attacks and noted that air defense remains one of the main areas of cooperation between Ukraine and the Netherlands.

The Ukrainian president also thanked the Dutch government for its willingness to host a full-fledged special tribunal, saying it would make it possible to hold Russia's top political and military leaders accountable for the crime of aggression itself, not just for its consequences. The two leaders also agreed on a schedule for upcoming meetings.

On 15 May, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe approved a key decision in the process of establishing the tribunal. The Office of the President of Ukraine expects it to begin its work next year.

During a visit to Chisinau, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said the tribunal would help Russian President Vladimir Putin "achieve his dream of going down in history".
