Trump Warns That Communism Is Rising, Calls It a "Cancer"

On Saturday, President Donald Trump marked the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States with a speech on the National Mall in Washington that combined a celebration of national identity with sharp criticism of what he described as current ideological threats at home and abroad.

He opened by highlighting American achievements, citing wartime victories, the Wright brothers' pioneering flight and the moon landing, and praised the American system of government as a model worthy of admiration.

The tone shifted sharply as he turned to current political issues. He called on Congress to quickly pass legislation tightening the electoral process, including restrictions on mail-in voting and a requirement for proof of citizenship for voter registration. He bluntly warned against the rise of communism in the US, describing the ideology as a "cancer" that must be eradicated as quickly and radically as possible.

Trump also highlighted what he described as his key achievements in office. Citing his record on national defense, he said his administration had "wiped out" the Iranian military. Although Trump has repeatedly labeled his Democratic opponents "communists" in the past, he did not apply that label to specific individuals in this speech.
