Kyiv Apartment Blocks Hit in Russian Overnight Attack

Russian missiles and drones struck the Ukrainian capital Kyiv early on Monday, killing at least seven people and injuring 24, local authorities said.

The worst damage was reported in the historic Podilskyi district, where four residential buildings were hit and part of one apartment block collapsed. Rescue workers evacuated 15 people from the building, including three women and six children taken down from the upper floors.

Further casualties were reported in the eastern Darnytskyi district, where drone fragments struck a 25-story residential building. A fire also broke out in a 30-story building in the district, where many people died in a Russian strike last Thursday.

Reuters witnesses reported a series of explosions in and around the capital and said air defenses were in action against Russian drones. Residents crowded into metro stations and underground parking garages, while deteriorating air quality prompted warnings to keep windows closed.

Poland briefly scrambled fighter jets as a preventive measure. President Volodymyr Zelensky had earlier warned residents of an imminent Russian attack.
