Death Toll from Russian Strike on Kyiv Rises to 15
Rescue workers in Kyiv recovered another body from the rubble after Sunday's large-scale Russian attack, raising the death toll to 15. A further 56 people were injured, including seven children, while search and rescue operations remain under way.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, said the latest victim recovered was a woman. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko had earlier confirmed 14 deaths and 56 injuries, while President Volodymyr Zelensky initially reported that nearly 60 people had been injured.
During the night of 5–6 July, Russia launched a large-scale combined attack on Ukraine using drones and missiles fired from the air, land and sea. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, air defences intercepted 363 of 419 aerial targets.
Despite the high interception rate, 29 ballistic missiles and 18 attack drones struck targets at 34 locations across the country. Kyiv was the primary target of the attack.
Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat said that although large numbers of cruise missiles and drones were intercepted, none of the ballistic missiles were shot down.
