Russia and Ukraine Trade Major Air Strikes

Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region early on Monday, killing at least 28 people, Ukrainian officials said.

Ukraine’s air force said it had intercepted 37 missiles and more than 90% of the 351 drones launched by Russia. However, it failed to shoot down any of the 23 ballistic missiles fired during the assault, exposing Kyiv’s growing shortage of Patriot interceptors.

Ukraine responded overnight with one of its largest drone attacks on Russia, sending more than 430 drones toward the Moscow region, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. He said most were intercepted at distant approaches, while 36 were destroyed as they approached the capital.

At the same time, Ukrainian missile strikes hit Belgorod city and the surrounding district in south-western Russia. Acting Belgorod regional governor Aleksandr Shuvaev said a civilian was killed in the village of Belovskoye, while strikes on civilian and energy infrastructure caused power and water outages in parts of the region.
