IOC Cuts Nordic Combined from 2030 Winter Games

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided to remove Nordic combined from the program for the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps, according to European Conservative.

The decision marks the first time since 1924 that the discipline will not feature at the Winter Games. IOC President Kirsty Coventry acknowledged that the move would disappoint many athletes and fans.

The IOC said the change is part of its effort to achieve greater gender balance, as Nordic combined remains the only Winter Olympic sport contested exclusively by men. The 2030 Games are expected to feature nearly equal numbers of male and female athletes.

The decision has drawn strong criticism from athletes, coaches and ski federation officials, who argue that it is a major blow to one of the Winter Olympics' oldest traditions.

The IOC also approved several new events, including freeride skiing, snowboard freeride and synchronized figure skating.
