Palm Beach Airport Renamed After Donald Trump
Palm Beach International Airport in Florida was officially renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport on Thursday, in a significant show of support for the Republican leader in his home state, where his Mar-a-Lago estate is also located.
Eric Trump told Fox News that no one is more closely connected to the area than his father. Governor Ron DeSantis signed the bill into law in March. The renaming cost $5.5m.
The airport's identification code has changed from PBI to DJT. Passengers will continue to use the original code for flight reservations until 18 August, when the change will be fully reflected in airline systems and on tickets. The first aircraft to land at the renamed airport was a private plane carrying Eric Trump.
Since Trump began his second term last year, his name has been adopted by numerous institutions, government programs, children's savings accounts and a new class of warships. While Trump's name also appeared on the building of the US Institute of Peace in Washington, DC, courts recently blocked an attempt to add it to the facade of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Similarly, in the US, an airport in Arkansas has been named after the Clintons.
