Wimbledon Will Crown Another Czech Champion
The women's Wimbledon final will feature an all-Czech showdown, with Karolina Muchova taking on Linda Noskova. Whichever player prevails will claim her first Grand Slam singles title.
For Czech tennis, it will mean a third different Wimbledon champion in the past four years. Muchova is aiming to follow Marketa Vondrousova's 2023 triumph and Barbora Krejcikova's title in 2024.
“We have a great history of Czech tennis. When I was younger, I looked up to the older players and believed that one day I could do it too. It’s nice that we have so many excellent female tennis players from such a small country”, the 29-year-old Muchova said.
A victory for either Muchova or 21-year-old Noskova would add another name to the list of Czech Wimbledon champions, which already includes Petra Kvitova and Jana Novotna. Martina Navratilova won her first Wimbledon title in 1978 while representing Czechoslovakia.
Noskova, who teamed up with Muchova to finish fourth in doubles at the 2024 Paris Olympics, now has the chance to claim the biggest title of her career.
“After Roland Garros, I was mentally exhausted. I had to reset and focus on enjoying tennis again. That’s what brought me here”, she said.
Both players head into the final in excellent form. Muchova won the Bad Homburg Open before Wimbledon, while Noskova claimed the Berlin Open. Since the start of 2025, she has compiled a tour-leading 19-4 record on grass.
