Israeli Firm Plans Iron Dome Missile Line in India
According to NDTV, the Israeli state-owned defense contractor Rafael Advanced Defense Systems plans to set up a production line in India for Tamir missiles, a key component of the modern Iron Dome air defense system. The company is currently in talks with Indian partners regarding joint production.
The move would not only reduce overall production costs but also enable the sale of interceptor missiles to other countries, thereby allowing Israel, according to NDTV, to effectively overcome current political resistance to the direct procurement of weapons from its own territory.
At the same time, it would significantly strengthen India's "Make in India" economic vision and confirm New Delhi's position as a reliable defense partner. India and Israel are thus entering a new phase and forming a special strategic partnership, which was announced in February this year in Jerusalem by Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Benjamin Netanyahu.
The final framework of the agreement will include the co-production of defense systems, the joint development of next-generation military technologies, and mechanisms for emergency procurement during conflicts or acute security threats. Rafael currently manufactures missiles in Israel and the United States.
Another Israeli manufacturer, Elbit Systems, is already operating in India, where it produces the Hermes 900 and Hermes 450 military drones.
