Police Seize 74kg of Gold in Indonesia Corruption Raid
Senior Indonesian prosecutor Febrie Adriansyah resigned Saturday from his position as chief prosecutor for special crimes at the Attorney General's Office. This followed a series of police raids, including one at his residence, during which police seized more than $20m in cash in various currencies and 74kg of gold bars.
The office said Febrie stepped down from his position in order to maintain complete neutrality during the ongoing police investigation.
Police official Totok Suharyanto confirmed that the prosecutor is suspected of extortion, bribery and money laundering. These charges are directly related to his past role overseeing the case involving the state-owned insurance company Asabri. Another suspect has also been taken into police custody.
Febrie, who has led several high-profile corruption cases, denies any wrongdoing. Before his arrest, he also served on Prabowo Subianto's presidential forestry task force and oversaw a major corruption investigation into the National Nutrition Agency, which administers the country's closely watched free school meals program.
