Pope to Send Archbishop Gallagher to Ukraine's Jubilee
Pope Leo XIV has appointed Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher to represent him on 19 July at the celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of the restoration of the structures of the Latin Rite Catholic Church in Ukraine. This was reported by VaticanNews.
The jubilee celebration will take place at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Berdychiv.
In his letter, the Holy Father recalls the witness of faith given by Catholics in Ukraine, who throughout history, especially during the period of Soviet persecution, faithfully preserved their faith despite oppression. He also highlights the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Latin Rite Church structures following the fall of the totalitarian regime and the 25th anniversary of St. John Paul II's apostolic journey to Ukraine.
The Pope entrusted Archbishop Gallagher to preside, on his behalf, over liturgical celebrations in Berdychiv, to convey his closeness and apostolic blessing to the faithful, and to encourage them to pray for peace in the world, for families and for the suffering Ukrainian people.
