Zelensky Vows Punishment over Ammunition Depot Blast

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Saturday that he intends to punish those responsible for establishing ammunition depots in the town of Vyshneve, near Kyiv, after one such depot exploded during a Russian missile attack earlier in the week.

In his evening video address, Zelensky said that setting up depots in Vyshneve had clearly been prohibited, adding that despite this, all these regulations were ignored.

He added that Ukraine has many locations where ammunition depots could have been established at a safe distance from residential buildings.

Zelensky confirmed that investigations had been launched against several individuals, including two directors of state-owned companies, though he did not provide names.

In the early hours of Monday, 6 July, Russia launched a large-scale airstrike on Kyiv and on Vyshneve, west of the capital. The strike on the ammunition depot in Vyshneve triggered a series of secondary explosions.
