Iraq Seeks to Attract US Companies, Will Sign Oil Agreement

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi will visit Washington on Monday, where he will hold talks with US officials on strengthening cooperation in the energy sector.

According to Iraqi government spokesman Haider al-Aboudi, the two sides are expected to sign several memorandums of understanding focused on the oil and natural gas sector.

Iraq wants to open up further to US energy companies, which are expected to help increase its production capacity.

Baghdad is continuing its long-standing effort to attract foreign investment and modernize its oil industry, one of the main pillars of the Iraqi economy.
