ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan Loses Appeal
Karim Khan, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), has lost an appeal against the suspension of his legal practice in the United Kingdom while he faces allegations of sexual misconduct.
The British Bar Standards Board confirmed on Tuesday that Khan's appeal had been unsuccessful. Khan, 56, denies all allegations against him. His law practice will remain suspended pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings.
Khan's legal difficulties intensified on June 8, when the ICC's governing body placed him on leave while an external investigation into the allegations continues. The decision has added to the challenges facing the world's top war crimes court, which is also under US sanctions over its investigations into alleged war crimes involving Israel and, previously, US personnel.
Khan's supporters argue that the allegations have become entangled with broader political disputes surrounding the ICC. They point to his pursuit of arrest warrants for senior Israeli officials over the war in Gaza, although no evidence has been presented publicly linking the complaints against him to those investigations.
