Fire at Algerian Orphanage Kills at Least 11

At least 11 people were killed and 19 injured in a fire at an orphanage in a suburb of the Algerian capital, Algiers, the country's civil defense agency said on Thursday.

Firefighters continued to battle the blaze in the Mohammadia district as authorities worked to determine its cause. Civil defense said the death toll is preliminary but did not provide details about the victims, including their ages.

State television broadcast footage of Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb visiting those injured in hospital.
