Trump Seeks to Uphold Transgender Military Ban

The administration of President Donald Trump will once again turn to the Supreme Court to keep the ban on transgender people serving in the military in effect during the ongoing legal dispute, according to USA Today.

The Department of Justice announced that by the end of August it will file an appeal against a June federal court ruling, which found that the ban likely violates the constitutional rights of service members and cannot be enforced against those who have challenged the policy.

The government argues that the Supreme Court already allowed the ban to be temporarily enforced during the legal proceedings last year. The administration also cites a recent Supreme Court ruling regarding the participation of transgender athletes in women's competitions.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reinstated the ban in February 2025 following Trump's return to office. He claims that individuals with gender dysphoria do not meet the requirements for military service, while opponents describe the measure as discriminatory.
