Tragedy at Spain World Cup Celebrations

Celebrations of Spain's second FIFA World Cup title ended in tragedy in the city of Ciudad Rodrigo. A 13-year-old boy was killed and two other people were injured after part of a fountain collapsed early on Monday.

The accident occurred shortly after midnight in the medieval town of Ciudad Rodrigo, in Salamanca province near the Portuguese border. According to emergency services, hundreds of residents had gathered around the Arbol Gordo fountain in the town center to celebrate Spain's World Cup victory.

Part of the upper section of the fountain broke away and fell onto several people.

In a statement, the city council expressed its condolences to the victim's family and loved ones. It said what had been intended as a celebration of Spain's World Cup triumph had turned into a tragedy.
