Iran Aims to Restore Gas Output After War Damage

Iran expects to restore about 100 million cubic meters of daily natural gas production capacity in the coming months after output was disrupted by the conflict with the US and Israel.

Executive Deputy President Mohammad Jafar Ghaempanah said attacks since late February had taken around 230 million cubic meters of daily production capacity offline.

Before the conflict, Iran produced about 650 million cubic meters of natural gas per day. The disruption has worsened an existing supply shortage.

The government says restoring part of the lost capacity should help stabilize energy supplies. However, Iran is also facing mounting pressure on its power grid during the summer, as soaring electricity demand has caused outages affecting households and businesses.

To address the shortages, the government plans to curb energy consumption and expand electricity generation, particularly through new solar power plants.
